Well once again, Joe Momma’s Pizza did not win the Urban Tulsa’s Absolute Best of Tulsa award for best gourmet pizza. The winner was The Hideaway. I hope they enjoy their little trophy because it’s the last one they’ll ever get. Next year, Joe Momma’s all the way….

I did spend the evening at the ABoT party downtown at The Hive (formerly Curly’s, Venue 216, etc). It was great to see so many of the other nominees and to enjoy the sonorous sounds of my good friend Steve Liddell. I was able to sample foods from Caz’s Chowhouse, Tsunami Sushi, Qdoba, Ted’s Escondido, Savastano’s Pizza (which I think is great), Hideaway Pizza (which I think is ok) and more. At the very least, it was a nice free dinner.

As I enjoy the local flavor of Tulsa, I can’t help but be excited about the future of our city. I believe our growing restaurant and bar scene (especially in the mid-town and downtown areas) along with our growing local music scene will help to make Tulsa a city that’s known for the qualities that our unique home-grown business and bands create. I can’t wait to see what will develop Downtown, on Brookside, and perhaps even on Ol’ Rt. 66 (my personal quest). Stay tuned as we hope to have great news about our second location in the very near future. You can probably guess where it might be. For now I encourage you to get out and experience the Absolute Best of Tulsa. Next time you dine out – avoid the chains. Next time you go to a movie, check out what’s on at the Circle Cinema or even at the Admiral Twin. There’s more to this city than so many people experience. Sometimes you just have to dig a bit.
